18th August Wednesday Vigil - NOT TODAY!
Yes we have no bananas! and Yes we have no Wednesday Vigil today!?? 18th August 2021
WHY?
Because we have the whole weekend to communicate the woes in Zimbabwe and the problems faced by the diaspora on our 5th Annual "Walk for Freedom" From Saturday 21st August at 6:00AM until around 11:00AM Sunday the 22nd August 2021 - after a 65 mile test of endurance!
In the light of the Humanitarian crisis in #Afghanistan [ the Home Office were forcibly removing Afghans up till last week!] we have to question how these repressive regimes [Afghanistan and Zimbabwe] are "assessed" by the Home Office - or is it all JUST POLITICAL POSTURING??
The so-called Zanu PF 'government' in Zimbabwe has not signed up for the Convention Against Torture, The so-called Zanu PF 'government' in Zimbabwe treats young girls as 'chattles' [see ZHRO Blog], and fails to uphold the law for their protection.
At the same time the Home Office in the UK has increased their [baseless] discrimination against those in the Zimbabwean diaspora - with 150 currently in detention!
Just why? What is wrong with our Home Office, why these draconian policies regarding Jamaicans, Zimbabweans, Afghans [we presume this will change any moment now], Nigerians, Ghanians and others of mainly African origin?
ZHRO have organised the "Walk for Freedom" annully since 2017. Prior to that the organising members had been pivotal in the 2016 ROHR Walk from Brighton to The Zimbabwean Embassy [via an over-night camp at Edenbridge - but too many were too stiff to continue].
Finishing previous year's Walk for Freedom |
So this year 2021 after the trials of State induced [lunatic] "lockdowns" and so-called "social distancing" [failed] measures we will [as in August 2020] set off in the early house from Brighton Pier.
We have real issues with both the UK Government AND the [failed] Zanu PF junta in Zimbabwe. Government 'over-reach' has reached Global proportions for the last 18 months. Its all about CONTROL and domination/fear. The so-called CV1984 'virus' is not even a serious health issue given the facts. Read for yourself -from 2020!!
Status of COVID-19: As of 19 March 2020, COVID-19 is no longer considered to be a high consequence infectious disease (HCID) in the UK. There are many diseases which can cause serious illness which are not classified as HCIDs.
Since this date the [propaganda] surrounding CV1984 has become almost a religion! Subsequently the Government appears to have decided that they can convince the public of anything. Thus the Climate hysteria and now all asylum seekers are "criminals" is their latest agenda.
World Governments via the media platforms are now conducting a "war" on what they deem as "MISINFORMATION" - but in reality it is them, that via Government [including WHO, WEF and Others] propaganda measure are the misinformation specialists. Look at the street demonstrations globally against lockdowns, health passports and vaccinations. These are not random occurances, they are under-reported, but the numbers participating tell a much different story [to the state sponsored - One World Government narrative].
In this global context we are promoting our modest "Walk for Freedom" - Please join us!

Home Office Policy Change is Apparent
It has come to our attention that since the week commencing 5th July 2021, the UK Home Office "Enforcement Unit" has been detaining large numbers of Zimbabweans for the purpose of deporting [for those with a criminal conviction] or forcibly removing [those within the asylum system] on [expensive] chartered flights the first of which departed on Wednesday 21st July 2021. Those being "targeted" are mainly those without leave to remain and / or have no 'live' leave-to-remain applications filed with the Home Office. The Home Office are claiming that most are "hardened criminals" - but this is a gross distortion of the facts - simply pandering to bigotry.
It is our considered view that many of the deportees face imminent danger if they are forcibly returned to Zimbabwe.
The first flight left Stansted Airport at 11:30 pm on Wednesday the 21st July 2021 with merely 14 deportees on-board an Airbus A380. Many potential forced-removals being removed from the flight due to Legal interventions appertaining to individual cases. Those that did go, were not "activists"
The problem we have with the Home Office is that this "TARGET DRIVEN" policy is indiscriminate and fails to offer any real protection for those who have fled Zimbabwe due to persecution from the ruling Zanu PF Party.
We are in need of funding a 'class action' [or such-like] against the Home Office policy in the High Court [or Higher], to prevent such discriminatory actions upon the Zimbabwean diaspora. Cases are not being assessed on merit, and the Asylum Process itself is too convoluted, complex and expensive for those who have fled persecution.
The same 'heavy-handed' approach is being applied to other Nationalities such as the Jamaicans, Vietnamese amongst others. However we are focussing on the Zimbabwean diaspora only.
In Zimbabwe Corruption is institutionalised
11th July 2021
Tendai Biti [opposition Vice President] had described the IMF as “a naïve and dishonest institution” after it published a report forecasting a 7% growth in Zimbabwe’s economy.
Zimbabwe has been robbed of US$24.6 billion of public funds between 2015 and 2019, former finance minister Tendai Biti said. He also said that Zimbabwe is also losing US$3.6 billion through Gold and Cigarette smuggling annually.
Between 2009 and 2014, US$15 billion worth of diamonds were plundered. The total figure of US$43.2 billion of looted public funds and plundered natural resources is enough to run Zimbabwe hospitals for 900 years.

HUMAN rights organisations have reported President Emmerson Mnangagwa to the United Nations (UN) and the African Union (AU) for overseeing worsening gross human rights violations in the country.
The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Southern African, and the Human Rights Defenders Network have dispatched a letter to UN special rapporteurs and their AU partners.
In their petition, the rights groups raise a red flag over a “disturbing trend in Zimbabwe of weaponising the criminal justice system”.
They also accuse Mnangagwa’s administration, which came into power in November 2017 following a military coup that removed strongman Robert Mugabe from office, of abusing the courts to punish dissenting individuals who are mostly opposition politicians, activists, and journalists.

Citizens in Action Southern Africa (CAISA) is deeply concerned about the deteriorating state of human rights in parts of the region in recent weeks. Of special concern are the situations prevailing in Republic of South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Eswatini. These four countries are facing three unique situations which however have a common thread of human rights violations passing through them.
CAISA is also worried about the closure of operating space for civil society in Zimbabwe where authorities are making illegal demands regarding the operations of NGOs and civil society organisations. We call on the Government of Zimbabwe to respect and uphold Constitutionally guaranteed rights to assembly and freedom of expression which form the bedrock of civil society work.

The US Embassy in Zimbabwe had this to say
“Despite incremental improvements from past elections, domestic and international observers noted serious concerns and called for further reforms necessary to meet regional and international standards for democratic elections. Numerous factors contributed to a flawed overall election process, including: the Zimbabwe Election Commission’s lack of independence; heavily biased state media favoring the ruling party; voter intimidation; unconstitutional influence of tribal leaders; disenfranchisement of alien and diaspora voters; failure to provide a preliminary voters roll in electronic format; politicization of food aid; security services’ excessive use of force; and lack of precision and transparency around the release of election results.”
“Significant human rights issues included: unlawful or arbitrary killings of civilians by security forces; torture and arbitrary detention by security forces; cases of cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment; harsh and life-threatening prison conditions; political prisoners or detainees; arbitrary or unlawful interference with privacy; serious problems with the independence of the judiciary; serious government restrictions on free expression, press, and the internet, including violence, threats of violence, or unjustified arrests or prosecutions against journalists, censorship, site blocking, and the existence of criminal libel laws; substantial interference with the rights of peaceful assembly and freedom of association; restrictions on freedom of movement; restrictions on political participation; widespread acts of corruption; lack of investigation of and accountability for violence against women; crimes involving violence or threats of violence targeting women and girls, and the existence of laws criminalizing consensual same-sex sexual conduct between adults, although not enforced.”

Amnesty International’s 2020 Report on Zimbabwe
“The authorities used COVID-19 regulations to justify severe restrictions on the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. They deployed security forces to abduct, assault and torture perceived critics, and opposition members and leaders. Police and security agents killed at least 10 people. Women were denied access to essential maternal health care, and violence against women and girls was widespread.”
“A joint team comprised of agents of the
police, military, the Central Intelligence Organisation, and the Office of the
President, known as the “Ferret Team”, terrorized government critics,
opposition leaders and activists, and their family members. Many, including
several members of the main opposition party, Movement for Democratic
Change-Alliance (MDC-A), were abducted from police custody, tortured and dumped
far from their homes.”
Please help us raise further
awareness and funds for legal actions.

Jah Prayzah won’t be getting my Vote
Until he says "Zanu PF must Go", Jah Prayzah won’t be getting my vote
In the last 24 hours I have seen loads of people tweeting about that singer Jah Prayzah, who apparently got nominated for some international ward that requires a public vote of some sort. Jah Prayzah is said to be appealing for the Zimbabwean people to vote for him so that he wins this award and subsequently get a bigger head than the one he already has!
But this is a guy who is silent about the evils of this Zanu PF Junta. Not only that, he sings at their jamborees where they celebrate their ill gotten power with no sense of self awareness at all. He was also silent during the #ZimbabweanLivesMatter campaign. He is NOT a man of the people.
I will go on and say any so called celebrity in Zimbabwe that does not publicly criticize Zanu PF's systematic destruction of Zimbabwe, is an "enabler of fascism". There are many of them, we all know them. Now if these 'celebrities' are not echoing the cries of the masses then their celebrity is pointless to us, the masses. If we the masses are easily suckered in by such pointless celebrities then we are also part of the problem. This is why Zimbabweans should stop giving attention to these Zanu PF enablers. These people are laughing on our faces and we keep getting dazzled by whatever it is that they sell to us. If you want Zimbabwe to get rid of Zanu PF and become a proper country where things work and where people are treated like human beings, you contradict yourself when you give attention to people like Jah Prayzah.
Until the day he says "Zanu pf must go", Jah Prayzah will not be getting my vote nor my attention.

Rise in Shooting Fatalities in Zimbabwe
Zimbabwean Soldier |
The first reported incident in the last 30 days was around the 6th of September 2020. Reports are that it occurred in the Chivhu area as reported in the various Zimbabwean State media and News Papers. The reports are that there was a firefight with two men who are said to have previously shot two soldiers. The two men are said to have been shot and fatally wounded. The manner in which the deployment of the Zimbabwean forces has been carried out is shocking when looked at by the lay. It seems to be leading to conflicts within the communities up and down the whole of Zimbabwe.
The second reported incident was around the 1st of October 2020 in the world renowned Victoria Falls area. It is alleged that members of the Zimbabwean security forces shot two men, fatally injuring one. There seems to have been an argument of sorts that led to the shooting.
The third and latest reported incident involved ZANU PF Youths who were shot at allegedly for trespassing. The reports were made yesterday on the 3rd of October 2020 in the Country’s main Government Newspaper (The Herald). It is also alleged that one youth lost his life following the shooting and two security guards are under arrest.Killer Soldiers Arrested, Angry Villagers Torch House https://t.co/26dgETxh0F— Pindula (@WeArePindula) October 3, 2020
Zimbabwe is a country that has historically been plagued by more than just isolated incidents of Rights Abuses. This is the same country that previously bard entry to Manfred Nowak, the Special Rapporteur on torture in 2009.

It is a shame and it is extremely concerning that the Zimbabwe National Army is deployed all over Zimbabwe, living with the people they are meant to protect, not in barracks, yet there is no civil war, there is no invasion and incidents involving security forces, have been escalating.
In times of peace, soldiers are usually confined to the borders of countries, barracks and military installations.
